What Do Pediatric Chiropractors Do?

What do Pediatric Chiropractors do? Pediatric Chiropractors correct vertebral subluxations. Correcting this disruption helps promote better nerve function and adaptability.

Pediatric Chiropractors use specific techniques designed for a child’s spine to correct these nerve disruptions. This correction is called an adjustment.

Pediatric adjustment protocols are safe, gentle and effective. The adjustment does not have a “one size fits all” application. The adjustment is specific and “tailor-made” for the individual child or infant.

A pediatric vertebral subluxation is different than an adult vertebral subluxation. And since the subluxation is unique to the child, the correction is unique for the child’s spine. The same amount of pressure you use to test the ripeness of a tomato is about the same pressure used in an adjustment.

Studies that have measured the adjustment, have done so in units called Newtons. A Newton is a measurement of force. About 100 Newtons are equivalent to about 23 lbs of force. An adjustment to an infant ranges from 20 to 28 Newtons of force. Young children aged 2 years to 8 years receive adjustment that are about 60 Newtons. Older children and young adult adjustments are around 88 Newtons of force.

A proper adjustment could never cause harm or trauma such as a fracture to a child. To fracture the cervical spine, 3,200 Newtons of force would be needed. To dislocate the cervical spine, 400 Newtons of force would be needed.

The vision for Pediatric Chiropractic can be boiled down to this statement: "Chiropractic Today for a Better World Tomorrow." Who is the world of tomorrow? Our children. Improving the health of our children today will create a future of well-being.

Reaching for and obtaining this vision can be more than an idea if we are willing to work for it. To quote Sir Frederick G. Banting: “You must begin with an ideal and end with an ideal.”
