What Is Pediatric Chiropractic?

What is Pediatric Chiropractic? Pediatric Chiropractic is designed and adapted for children. Some might have an incomplete picture of what Chiropractic is, so Pediatric Chiropractic can seem a little confusing if you never heard of it. But any assumption that Pediatric Chiropractic is about “cracking” a child’s spine, especially an infant’s spine, has to be thrown out the window immediately.

Pediatric Chiropractic is not a scaled-down version of adult Chiropractic. It is not about trying to “straighten a child’s spine” either. Its focus is on trying to restore function to a child’s Nerve System.

Pediatric Chiropractic is about wanting to help your child reach their full potential. A healthy Nerve System is part of that equation.

Our Nerve System does 4 main things: controls every movement we make, senses everything we feel, controls and regulates every bodily function and relates us to the outside world. Your child’s Nerve System is the greatest asset they will need with them on the journey that is life.

But we all know that the journey isn’t always easy. Physical, chemical and emotional stresses bombard our Nerve System daily. When nerves get over-stressed, it effects their sensitivity, perception and behavior.

Neurological stress causes body tension. Body tension creates an imbalance in the system as a whole. The greatest concentration of body tension occurs in the upper cervical spine.

The Nerve System must adapt to the stresses and bring the body back into balance. What if the stresses are too great for the body to adapt? An abnormal compensation occurs. A physical presentation of this abnormal compensation is a vertebral subluxation. A vertebral subluxation perpetuates spine imbalance and abnormal nerve sensation, perception and behavior.
